Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant Scholarships for the Academic Year 2024

Chiang Mai University has allocated an amount of budget to support graduate students to work as Teaching Assistants (TA’s) and Research Assistants (RA’s) for those who are applying to enroll in either regular or international master’s degree or doctoral degree programs with doing thesis (master’s thesis or doctoral thesis). The purposes of the scholarships are to:

  1. Reduce workload of faculty members, the department or the faculty where affiliated
  2. Enhance the ability of students in transferring knowledge
  3. Provide students the experience in teaching and/or doing research
  4. Provide financial support

Application

Apply and upload required documents of online system on the website: Multidisciplinary and Interdisciplinary School within the specified period only.
Periods of application are as follows :

    First period
  • 13th November 2023 to 15thJanuary 2024.

  • Second period
  • 16th January 2024 to 22th April 2024.


The Scholarships

100 scholarships are available for Master’s and Doctoral students. The maximum amount of each scholarship is THB 108,000 per year, which will be paid by monthly installments to a maximum of 9,000 Baht per month. The duration of the scholarship is 12 months.

The students must reconfirm to continue receiving the scholarships each year. The maximum period of scholarships for Master’s TA/RA is 2 years. The maximum period of scholarships for Doctoral TA/RA is 3 years.


Criteria for Eligibility

  • Applicants who are applying to enroll in a regular graduate program or part time graduate program (In that part time program, there must be no regular program) with doing master’s thesis or dissertation (doctoral thesis) starting from the first academic semester of 2024.
  • Applicants must have obtained good past academic record.
    • Master’s degree students must have obtained a Grade Point Average (GPA) in the bachelor’s degree level not less than 3.00 or equivalent.
    • Doctoral degree students:
      • For type 1.2 and 2.2 programs: must have obtained a bachelor’s degree GPA not less than 3.50 or equivalent.
      • For type 1.1 and 2.1 programs: must have obtained a master’s degree GPA not less than 3.25 or equivalent. In case the students studied in a master’s degree program with thesis only, the applicants must have a good academic publication or have a good progress in the thesis work.

Termination and Continuing the Scholarships

  • Lacking of student status
  • Transferring the affiliated faculty, department or level of study
  • Misbehave, unable to work, irresponsible, late, unable to follow the procedure specified by the scholarship that the supervisor in charge, program committee, department or faculty have approved, or any other reasons that the Graduate Education Scholarship Administrative Committee (GESAC) has approved
  • GPA less than 3.25 at the end of each academic year, or the academic progress is dissatisfied for the program with master’s thesis or dissertation only
  • Master’s thesis has not been approved within 1 academic year or dissertation (doctoral thesis) has not bee approved within 3 academic semesters.
  • For continuing a one-year scholarship, the student must have working at Graduate School no less than 12 hours/ semesters.

Required Documents

  • A copy of the bachelor’s degree transcript and/or a copy of master’s degree transcript(if applicable).
  • Doctoral degree applicants who finished or are studying a master’s degree program with thesis only shall provide the publication(s) and/or progress report of their master’s thesis.

Scholarship Granting Announcement

  • Scholarship granting will be announced on the website: Multidisciplinary and Interdisciplinary School

  • First period of application
  • within February 2024.

  • Second period of application
  • within May 2024.
